About

Rio Gems writes informative content to educate our customers about gems and jewelry. Our belief is that an educated consumer is a better consumer. We hope the information we have compiled will help you decide what to buy, what to do with what to buy, and how to care for it.

This repository of information is contininuously being updated, and will include current news, such as new gemstone treatments and fashion trends. If you are interested in contributing to our knowledgebase — or if there is a topic you believe we should cover, please let us know.

Getting Started Learning About Gems

If you’re just getting started, and want to learn more about a particular topic, don’t hesitate to write us, and we may prepare some information to educate you.  In the meantime, be sure to read through our different sections (linked on the left), and soak in as much knowledge as you can regarding gemstones.

All of the gemstones we carry are natural gemstones, and some are treated via acceptable methods (all of this is disclosed on each gems page) — for example, all mystic topaz has a coating diffused on the pavilion of the gem.  All peridot and chrome diopside is naturally untreated.  Most sapphires are heated, some are diffused (but we don’t carry those), and few are unheated.
